The 6-Hour Drug, Alcohol & Traffic Safety Education (DETS) Course is a state-approved online program required for teens under the age of 18 who are applying for their first driver’s license in Florida. The course teaches responsible driving behavior, awareness, and decision-making skills.
Who Needs This Course?
This course is required for:
- First-time teen drivers under 18 years old
- Students preparing to apply for a Florida learner’s permit
- Anyone who has never previously held a driver’s license in any U.S. state or territory

Your completion is electronically submitted to the Florida DMV system. You’ll then be ready to take your learner’s permit knowledge exam and begin behind-the-wheel training.
